overcoming adversity in leadership

It happened again last week. Another setback. You aren’t sure why. You did everything you were supposed to do. It is not directly your fault this time. But it doesn’t matter. You are the children’s ministry leader and ultimately responsible for the decisions your volunteer colleagues make and the outcome of what happens in your area of responsibility. So, it happened. You feel depleted of energy. You wonder if you can find motivation to get back up and try again.

Question is: will you?

Will you find that motivation? From where? You know it is not to be found deep within you. It is not even to be found from those who are trying to encourage you.

It can only be found as you follow the example of King David and encourage yourself in the Lord (1 Samuel 30:6). Most likely you are not having nearly as bad of a day as he was having when he chose to do something positive about it. And if you are, then his response is a constructive example to follow. Even when he had no encouragers, he looked to the Lord God.
