According to the Oregonian newspaper, Ken Loyd is a New Testament kind of guy. I met him once and I have visited the church his wife pastors. Last February, I wrote an account of my visit to The Bridge. The Oregonian recently wrote a lengthy article about his ministry to the marginalized and homeless in Portland. What impresses me most about Ken and Deborah, is their unwavering commitment to the marginalized to such an extent that they gave up security and transplanted themselves into the margins, living in community with the very people they feel called to reach. They set aside the American dream in order to answer the call of Jesus to minister to the oppressed, hopeless and hurting among us. I suggest we listen carefully, not only to the Loyds, but to those whom they are called to minister. We can learn much from them.
