I am substituting for one of my Sunday School teachers this morning in her k-1 class. The same kids, plus additional younger children come into kids church for the second hour. So rather than prepare two separate lessons, I chose to use the Sunday School lesson Bible story for both sessions, adding additional elements for the second hour. This helps with my preparation and relieves some of the pressure. In a small church it is sometimes helpful to simplify in order to adapt, rather than to maintain the status quo. At other times it might mean adding staff, classes, and so on, depending on resources. I would imagine a similar stance is sometimes required in larger churches as well.
What are some areas of needed adaptation in your church? Your class? Your life?
