Center of Leadership Gravity

There is a defining fulcrum which balances public leadership and personal leadership. I call it the center of leadership gravity. Who we are in private profoundly impacts our public life. What I do, say, and think — when no one but God is looking or listening — matters. A heart soaked in the Scriptures, filled with the Spirit through prayer and worship, placed in a web of networked accountable relationships, and grounded in an ethic of Christ-like humility provides a personal leadership balance for the demands of public responsibility. It highlights the simplicity and necessity of a life lived above reproach. As difficult as this aspiration might seem, its benefits coax us to its aim. For if we live our lives in a way that brings nothing but glory to God, then we will find it far less necessary to use an abundance of words in convincing others to follow our leadership and example as we follow Jesus Christ.
