How about we start by writing and publishing the kinds of things that will spark the imaginations of this generation and those that follow? How about we strive to write good, imaginative high fantasy which is free from cliches and colloquial agenda-driven jargon. C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien understood the need for this. While they approached it quite differently, given that Lewis was a literary critic and Tolkien was a philologist, their collaborative critiques were formative in the development of their writings. Sadly, there seems to be a serious dearth of high quality fiction–especially high fantasy–currently being published from a Christian worldview which also is marketable to a broader audience.
I have never read the Potter books or gone to the related movies because of my personal convictions. However I am given to understand J.K. Rowling writes quite well. So? Surely there are followers of Jesus Christ out there who can similarly rise to the occasion.
Here is my heart-felt encouragement to those who have the talent write well for young people from a worldview which honors Jesus Christ. Get busy! Your audience is waiting. And honestly, so am I.
Blessings,
